The SMOHIT Helpline is a unique and personalized mental health service for our members and their families, operated by Jeremy Holburn with assistance from a variety of mental health professionals. Although the Helpline is available 24/7, it is possible that when you call you may be prompted to leave a message, most likely due to our therapists helping other members.

An Association’s Books and Records

An introduction to the basics of bookkeeping, taught by an accounting professional, Dawn Minemier of The Bonadio Group, will cover how to prepare an association budget and track expenses against budget line items. Additional items to be covered are Form 990’s, understanding a financial statement and common financial mistakes of small associations.

Aaron Hilger, CEO

Aaron Hilger is SMACNA’s Chief Executive Officer. He assumed the role in January, 2022 after a long career leading the Builders Exchange of Rochester as their President & CEO.  At Builders Exchange he managed 13 local and state wide trade associations, including the Construction Industry Association of Rochester, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) Rochester, the Roofers Industry Fund and New York State SMACNA.

SMACNA Chapters may request to conduct the following SMACNA technical seminars: Architectural, Duct Construction (Commercial & Industrial), Duct Leakage, Duct Inspection, Indoor Air Quality, Fire Damper Guide, Architectural Sheet Metal, Seismic Restraint, Commissioning and Duct Design. The approval of the SMACNA CEO is needed in order to conduct a technical seminar.

Policies

All legislative policies are reviewed each year by Legislative Affairs Committee. Prospective legislative issues are to be referred by the Legislative Affairs Committee to relevant SMACNA Committees with appropriate expertise for review; The Committee of jurisdiction will then report its recommendations to the Legislative Affairs Committee for review where a draft policy is then presented to the Board of Directors.

Air Duct Leakage App

This app provides suggested leakage classes using the method outlined in SMACNA's HVAC Air Duct Leakage Manual. The method used is compliant with ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, IGCC Version 2, IMC and the UMC. 

Safety Innovation Award

With the theme of “Safety Excellence Through Innovation”, this award is open to all SMACNA members who participate in the SMACNA Safety Excellence Awards program. In collaboration with SMACNA premier partners Milwaukee Tool and Federated Insurance, the award will be for the company that demonstrates an example of an innovate safety idea, concept, or best practice that provided a statistical improvement in the company safety program or culture.
