Why Your Chapter Needs a Conflict of Interest Policy

Running your chapter can be complex and at times tricky due to potential conflicts of interest. Having clear guidelines on conflicts of interest provides you with a foundation

Running your chapter can be complex, and at times tricky, due to potential conflicts of interest. Having clear guidelines on conflicts of interest provides you with a foundation

SMACNA strongly urges all chapters to have a Conflict of Interest Policy in place, which should include:

  • Conflict of Interest Defined
    • Outside interests
    • Outside activities
    • Gifts, Gratuities and Entertainment
    • Serving as a Trustee
  1. Definitions
  2. Procedures
  3. Confidentiality
  4. Review of Policy

Additionally, when determining conflicts of interested, parties should complete a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement to identify other areas of potential conflict.

If you have questions about SMACNA National’s or your chapter’s Conflict of Interest Policy, email Joye Blanscett, J.D., Director of Labor Services and Human Resource Management, at jblanscett@smacna.org.
